It is important to make sure that your electrical panel is always in the best possible shape, as it can be dangerous if it is not. To help you do this, you will need to know the signs that may indicate a need for a professional repair. Check out the following signs so you will know when it is time to call a skilled residential electrician.

It Feels Warm To The Touch

Open the metal door that covers the electrical breakers. Gently touch the metal cover that surrounds the breakers. Does it feel cool to the touch or at least room temperature? If so, then there is nothing to worry about. However, if it feels as though it is a little warmer than normal, you will want to call in an emergency electrician. If it is very hot, you might want to shut the main breaker off and leave it off until the residential electrician checks it out. The problem could be that there is a wire fraying or starting to spark. This is a dangerous situation that cannot be ignored without risking a fire in the home.

You Can't Keep The Breaker On

There is nothing to be concerned about if you occasionally have a breaker flipping into the off position. This is what the breakers were designed to do. They are meant to flip into the off position to prevent the electrical line from becoming overloaded with electricity. This might happen if you are suddenly using an extra four appliances than you normally use on a single breaker. However, if this is something that is happening more often than not and you are not trying to pull an excessive amount of power through the breaker, then it is time to replace the breaker. There could also be a problem with the wiring in the electrical panel that leads to the breaker that keeps turning off.

You Smell Something Strange

If you happen to smell smoke, burning rubber, or anything else unusual coming from your electrical panel, you need to immediately turn it off. Flip the main breaker in the box to the off position. If you have access to the main that control the power going into the box itself, you can flip that into the off position as well. Either way, you need to call an emergency electrician to determine the cause of the smell and make the necessary repairs for you. Of course, if you are smelling smoke, you need to vacate the property and call the fire department. They can get to your home quickly, which would be necessary if there is a fire starting to form.

With those few signs of trouble in mind, you will know when it is time to call in a residential electrician like Allied Electric Inc for your electrical panel.
